The NIHR Three Research Schools’ Mental Health Programme is delighted to announce that a study led by Dr. Juan Carlos Bazo Alvarez has been recognised as one of the Top 10 articles of 2024 by the British Journal of General Practice (BJGP).

The article, titled Risk of Parkinson’s Disease in People Aged ≥50 Years with New-Onset Anxiety, highlights crucial findings on the potential link between late-onset anxiety and the development of Parkinson’s disease.

Dr. Bazo Alvarez, a former NIHR Three Research Schools’ Mental Health Programme Fellow, contributed to this important work, which provides valuable insights for primary care practitioners in identifying early indicators of Parkinson’s disease. The recognition by BJGP underlines the significance of this research in improving early diagnosis and patient outcomes.
