Congratulations to Hollie Birkinshaw, from the University of Southampton, who has recently been awarded the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) Elizabeth Murray Fellowship.
The decision was made, by the SPCR Board, that the highest-ranking awardee would be offered their fellowship in memory of Professor Elizabeth Murray who died in April 2023.
Elizabeth was a GP who developed and led the eHealth Unit at The Department of Primary Care and Population Health at UCL. Elizabeth was a keen advocate for the SPCR, seeing the value in working across Institutions and disciplines to make a difference to the lives of patients.
She was also keen to support the careers of women in primary care, from all disciplines. She would have seen the value in Hollie's research which looks at first contact physiotherapists as early adopters of patient public involvement (PPI). You can find more about Elizabeth’s work here.
On receipt of the award Hollie said
I’m thrilled and honoured that my fellowship will be the SPCR Elizabeth Murray Fellowship. The impact of Elizabeth’s research on primary care, intervention development, knowledge mobilisation, and patient and public involvement is inspiring, and it’s a privilege to undertake my fellowship in her name. I can’t wait to get started!
