Georgina Fletcher
- SPCR Assistant Director
I have worked in higher education management since 1997 following the completion of my doctoral studies in Biological Sciences. I joined the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) as Senior Scientific Manager in 2010 and I am now the Assistant Director. I have an extensive knowledge of the research funding landscape.
I am responsible for the School's strategic planning and management ensuring that the programme delivery is as defined in the School's business plan. I work closely with colleagues in each of the School's nine academic members; Bristol, Exeter, Keele, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, Queen Mary University of London, Southampton and University College London overseeing the School's portfolio of research projects and capacity development initiatives. I enjoy navigating the complex health research landscape and identifying trends in the rapidly changing environment where the SPCR could make an impact.
I represent the SPCR in various cross NIHR fora and other Primary Care organisations sharing good practice on issues such as programme management, governance, training, patient and public involvement, communications and finance.
I also over see the management of Three NIHR Schools' mental health programme (with NIHR Schools for Public Health Research and Social Care Research) and our Wellcome funded PhD programme for primary care clinicians (our nine members plus University of Cambridge).
I am keen to develop the next generation of research management professionals and have been a mentor for a number of years ( Association of University Administrators, NIHR Mentoring programme, Oxford Senior Women's network). My role as head of the SPCR directorate team is very important to me and I strive to inspire, coach and motivate colleagues.
