On Wednesday 5 July 2023, the NHS marks its 75th birthday. Treating over a million people a day in England, the NHS touches all of our lives. When it was founded in 1948, the NHS was the first universal health system to be available to all, free at the point of delivery.

To mark the occasion, the NIHR “Shape the Future” campaign started on 1 May and lasts until the end of 2023. Without research, some health conditions will claim more lives and care is less likely to improve. By participating and engaging in research we can, together, shape our health and care system.

You can join in with the campaign as we celebrate how NIHR research contributes to the NHS, saving lives and money - and how research can shape the future of healthcare.
