Currently in receipt of funds from the School, Alastair is principal investigator on a randomised trial to consider the clinical and cost effectiveness of oral steroids in the treatment of acute lower respiratory tract infection. This is a collaborative study between the universities of Bristol, Southampton, Nottingham, Sheffield and Oxford.
In 2008, Alastair was funded by the School to conduct a feasibility study to investigate the relationship between primary care prescribed antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance, and its associated costs, among symptomatic adults assessed in secondary care with infection.
I am delighted to be offered this opportunity by NICE and to influence a topic of international importance and central to the preservation of future antibiotic effectiveness." - Alastair Hay
