In their letter 'End of life care - why those with dementia have different needs' they highlight the challenges of supporting someone with dementia at the end of life, in particular that people with dementia are unable to communicate verbally and lack capacity, creating problems for decision making. People with dementia often have a multitude of health concerns and therefore can create a dilemma as to who is best to care for the person at the end of life.
Nathan is a School for Primary Care Research Post-Doctoral Fellow and leads a programme of work exploring ways to improve end of life care for people with dementia. As part of his fellowship he is developing, with family carers, an internet support tool to help families caring for their relative with dementia at the end of life at home.
