Dementia Research Programme
The NIHR Schools for Primary Care Research, Public Health Research and Social Care Research have joined together to colloborate on a programme of work on Dementia.
To stay updated on this programme, keep an eye on the website: Dementia Research - NIHR School for Social Care Research (SSCR).
The NIHR Schools for Social Care Research (SSCR), Public Health Research (SPHR) and Primary Care Research (SPCR) (“three Schools”) have joined together in a unique collaboration between leading academic centres in England to collaborate on a programme of work on dementia, led by the SSCR and funded through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).
Dementia presents many challenges for individuals, families, communities, health and care systems. Commitments under the Government’s Challenge on Dementia and the G8 Dementia Summit have highlighted the need to boost dementia research, and NIHR has funded an extensive portfolio of dementia research.
Our ambitions align with those of DHSC and NIHR: the Three Schools will carry out research to address key gaps in the evidence base, working collaboratively across primary care, public health and social care. Collectively, we are well placed to carry out research that is crosscutting and community-orientated, We will develop relevant research for whole populations and specific groups of individuals within them. We will draw on our experience and established networks to ensure patient, carer, service user, public and community engagement.
The Programme builds on research within each School. Since September 2021, we have funded nine research projects and 16 individuals are receiving career development awards.
